Why prices vary so much
Private treatment is priced by the provider, and there is no national tariff. Cost is driven mainly by the setting (residential care includes accommodation and round-the-clock staffing), the length of the programme, whether medically managed detox is included, and the intensity of clinical input.
Because of this, an indicative "price from" figure is only a starting point. It usually reflects the shortest programme in the simplest circumstances.
Ask for an itemised quotation
A clear written quotation should state:
- the total cost and the period it covers
- whether assessment is charged separately
- whether detox and any prescribed medication are included
- accommodation and meals, where relevant
- therapy sessions included per week
- family sessions, if offered
- aftercare, and for how long
- deposit, cancellation and refund terms
- what happens, and what is charged, if the programme is extended
Common extras
Items frequently charged separately include pre-admission medical tests, medication, transport, specialist appointments, extended stays and aftercare beyond an initial period. None of these are unreasonable in themselves — the problem is only when they are not disclosed up front.
Paying for treatment
People fund private treatment in different ways: self-funding, private medical insurance (cover for substance misuse treatment is often limited or excluded, so check the policy wording), employer or occupational health schemes, and occasionally charitable funding. Local authorities commission some residential placements through NHS or community services; your local drug and alcohol service can explain whether that route is available to you.
Cost is not a measure of quality
A higher price does not indicate better clinical care. It often reflects accommodation standard, staffing ratios or location. Judge quality on regulation, staffing, programme content and continuity of care.
How NeuroLynk shows pricing
Where a provider gives an indicative price, we show it as declared, with the date context of their listing. Many providers price only on request because cost depends on assessment. We never estimate, model or infer prices, and providers cannot pay to appear higher in factual search results.

Frequently asked questions
- Why do providers not publish prices?
- Cost usually depends on the assessment outcome, programme length and whether detox is required, so many providers quote only after assessing.
- Will my insurance cover rehab?
- Cover for substance misuse treatment varies and is often limited or excluded. Check your policy wording and ask your insurer for written confirmation before committing.
- Is there a free alternative?
- Yes. NHS and local-authority commissioned drug and alcohol services are free at the point of use. Your GP or local service can explain what is available in your area.
